BugPellent to the Rescue!

Star is an elderly (33 years old) Thoroughbred gelding living in Glastonbury, CT. In many ways he is a lucky guy. He’s “retired,” so nobody expects to ride him anymore; he has a private turnout area and his own 3-sided shed that provides  shade and shelter from wind or rain.

In other ways, he’s not so lucky – – his devoted owner ad passed away from cancer at age 42. His board is paid for by the family, but his owner was the only one who cared for Star. His board covers ample food and water, as well as the nice surroundings he occupies, but he has no one to come and give him any grooming or attention.

Without regular grooming a horse his age becomes a fly magnet in the summer heat. One recent August day, his legs, especially from knees to hooves, were found to be lined with rows of flies, clinging to the skin to feed and causing Star to stamp his feet and scrape his legs with his nose all day long to try to dislodge them. He looked miserable.

decided to try BugPellent’s Natural Fly & Tick spray and found a supplier nearby who carried the product

Two other friends helped to get Star all brushed out and as clean as possible. Next, I sprayed his legs thoroughly with the BugPellent spray. I saturated the hair. The flies were out of there. This is not so surprising, but an hour later when I checked, there were just a couple of flies on his legs (compared to about 100 previously).

Even better, when I checked 8 hours later, he still had just a few flies on his legs, even though he had not been resprayed. He looked so much happier!

My friend went back today and took another photo. Still, a MUCH lower fly count than before BugPellent! Even though it was 3 days later. I’m impressed!
